Case Studies

We’ve worked with a variety of businesses, large and small, across the UK and Jersey. Here are some of the things we’ve worked on recently:

Recruitment: Research & Service Improvement

“Best Practice” | “Pragmatic” | “Expert” | “Solutions-Focused”

Creative Leadership were asked to provide Badenoch & Clark, a leading recruitment firm, with a full review of their own recruitment and selection processes, as well as devising service levels for the resourcing team.

Over a period of 3 months Creative Leadership met with a number of Badenoch & Clarks senior management team and HR to establish a clear understanding of the business’s current process and what really happens! They attended numerous interviews and spoke to new consultant hires about their experience of Badenoch & Clark’s recruitment process. This led to them being able to come to a real understanding of what was working and what wasn’t.

“We asked Creative Leadership to provide expert advice on our internal recruitment & selection process and devise a service level agreement for our internal resourcing department. Over the course of them working with us, I was really impressed by how they came to a real understanding of our process. They had real strength in getting under our skin and understanding what really happens. Their knowledge of best practice meant that the solutions they recommended were really pragmatic and our project team will be taking them further. I’d recommend them to any business interested in improving their recruitment processes.

Employee Engagement

“Flexible” | “Resourceful” | “Plain Speaking” | “Reliable”  | “Logical”

Having worked with Creative Leadership on a variety of HR projects, Neil Tune, HR Director for Fitness First, engaged their help to assist with their Employee Engagement surveys.

The support Creative Leadership offered included:

  • Working with Best Companies managing data collation, analysis and reporting
  • Compiling comparative reports against both internal and external benchmarks and reference points and across different years. This allowed for a clear line of sight of their progression and also for internal comparisons across their functions and business units
  • Compiling a ranking chart by country and region to demonstrate a very compelling picture of Employee Engagement to drive improved performance
  • Reviewing commentary for key themes to enable Fitness First to drill down into the detail

Following their assistance with Employee Engagement we have seen the following outcomes:

  • Better reporting and understanding of how engaged our employees are
  • Tools to use internally to help drive home the strategic message of how important Employee Engagement is to our business results
  • Streamlined reporting to clubs enabling them to visualise results and outcomes of the survey faster.

““I initially engaged Creative Leadership in 2011 to assist with compiling various reports driven by our Best Companies UK Employee Engagement survey, and have been using them ever since.   As time has gone on, the work they have delivered for us has evolved, and we now use them to help with project managing both our UK and Global campaigns. I trust the team to deliver accurate reporting that makes sense of the detailed data behind it, and gives me a really clear insight into how engaged our people truly are. From these reports, we are able to tailor specific people strategies built on employee feedback, and so improve Engagement ratings.” December 2014

Recruitment Strategy and Redesign

“Professional” | “Enthusiastic” | “Knowledgeable” | “Interested” | “Fun”

Creative Leadership were brought in to Home Learning College (an ECI Equity Partner Investment) as part of a major transformation project by Alan Evans, CEO and Martin Hall, National Sales Director. Over a period of 3 months, Creative Leadership led the programme to redesign the recruitment and on-boarding process for professional advisers and managers. During their time working as an integral part of the Sales team they:

  • Reduced the cost per hire (76%cost reduction in the first 3 months)
  • Designed a candidate attraction strategy using a direct sourcing model
  • Increased the volume and quality of candidates attracted
  • Transformed the end-to-end recruitment process
  • Implemented a new on-boarding process for new recruits
  • Trained recruiters and recruiting managers in competency based interviewing

This was a challenging project, not least given the client requirements for the development of a bespoke product which would be delivered and adopted within three months. To do so, Creative Leadership used a hands-on approach developing a project plan with clear deliverables and accountabilities that was followed and managed. At the end of the project, the project sponsors had the following feedback:

“The programme was delivered ahead of time, on budget and the business is now well positioned to grow significantly over the next 2 years. I now have confidence that we can attract and on-board new advisers using our own resources. I had a specific requirement to improve the design, processes and the support infrastructure for our recruitment of sales advisers. Having considered a number of options for the work I required, Creative Leadership were the best equipped for my requirements. I also had personal recommendations regarding the quality of their work.”

Said Martin Hall, National Sales Director, speaking about the recruitment project.

“By actively engaging with others and seeking buy-in from stakeholders throughout the project, they ensured successful delivery. Simply put, there was a rapid understanding gained of our business and our individual requirements.”

Sean Grant, Sales Project and Operational Manager.

“I have been very impressed with the quality of the work and the effort put in to make the initiative a success.”

Executive and Leadership Coaching

“Inspiring” | “Guiding” | “Supportive” | “Imaginative” | “Reassuring”

Creative Leadership have helped a number of individuals with Leadership Coaching both privately and as part of wider business coaching programmes. One of the people they’ve coached is Emma James, MD of Tasty Marketing.

Emma James started her own business in September 2007 after having spent several years working in various marketing firms. The decision to start a marketing company was one Emma took seriously, having never owned a business, she needed to be sure she would make the right decisions when the time came.

Emma met Michelle Fischer, Creative Leadership’s MD at a local networking event, and was so impressed with the advice she shared, that she booked in to see her for 1-2-1 coaching.

Emma’s sessions had a varied format in order to cover the different aspects of her challenges and major business decisions.

Emma talked through the challenges she faced with growing her fledgling coaching firm and Michelle encouraged her to look objectively at her circumstances. Some of the key things Emma made decisions about were;

  • A major office move
  • A decision against a merger
  • The vision for the business in the long Term

Emma’s experience with Creative Leadership helped her make key business decisions about staff, her office premises and the overall direction of her business. Those who have key Leadership decisions for their businesses will also benefit from ‘Grow’ Leadership Coaching sessions.

Speaking about the coaching, Emma said:

“The sessions were short enough so as not to interrupt my working day, and I found after each session I was raring to go – energised for my next steps. Having someone to push me has meant that I have taken steps quickly that may otherwise have taken me months to do” “Working with Creative Leadership has had a measurable effect on my business. Working with Michelle has allowed me to clarify my decisions and move my business forward. I credit my confidence to do this to the Creative Leadership team.”

Development for Recruiters

“Ideas” | “Understanding” | “Analysis” | “Solutions” | “Knowledgeable”

Compliance Recruitment Solutions, a niche Financial Services recruitment firm, engaged Creative Leadership to help further develop their recruitment team with new sales strategies and approaches for working with HR.

The work was commissioned in the middle of the economic downturn, where recruitment freezes and redundancies were rife. Compliance Recruitment Solutions recognised a very real need for enhanced partnership skills and a greater appreciation for how the team could add real value for candidates and clients alike.

Following a full consultation, Michelle Fischer, MD of Creative Leadership developed a bespoke training course for the business, which included:

  • HR Collaboration and Partnership
  • Advanced recruitment skills
  • Using Social Media to recruit and source candidates
  • Identify, plan for and achieve stretching goals
  • Understanding behavioural styles
  • How to communicate best with different people

Alongside this, Creative Leadership worked with the CEO to consider how best to motivate the team in light of the challenging climate.

At the end of the project the client said:

“Creative Leadership’s understanding and ability to identify solutions to our sales problems, especially for how to get on the PSL, is second to none. Michelle has an ability to relate to all aspects of the recruitment process having held the different roles herself. We were delighted by the real business benefits she brought to our business including new, and better ideas, and an understanding of all the different roles played in the process.”

Outplacement

“Invaluable” | “Informed” | “Reliable” | “Empowering” | “Positive”

The Creative Leadership Move On – Ouplacement Programme is specifically designed for those businesses facing the need to restructure and to support people placed “at risk”. The Move On – Outplacement programme gives displaced employees the assistance they need to make the transition to a new career, helps ease the stress of layoffs for all concerned and also reduces the risk of negative action from disgruntled employees.

Creative Leadership were called in to offer Esme one-to-one career coaching, so that she could identify her long-term goals. Before her sessions, Esme’s aim was to seek a better position, and she expected the sessions with Creative Leadership to help with this. Esme’s sessions with Creative Leadership were flexible; she had face-to-face meetings, as well as overthe- phone communication. Together with her dedicated outplacement coach, they focused on helping Esme understand herself better, so she could make her next steps to move on in the right direction.

Working with Creative Leadership allowed Esme to really identify her strengths and motivation, which in turn enabled her to embark upon her career search really knowing what it is she could bring to a company, what type of role she was suited to and put the wheels in motion to achieve her ambitions.

Speaking about the course, Esme said:

“The experience was positive and challenging. It made me look beyond my comfort zone and forced me to analyse what’s important to me. I got to know myself better and as a result I was more motivated.”

“I have started my new role full of self-confidence, knowing what I’m good at, believing in myself and with the determination to make a difference”
